Savannah Songwriters Series welcomes two young ladies to the Sun., Aug. 25 showcase.
Louise Warren from Macon and Payne Bridges from Savannah are making their SSS debut.
Joining them will be Alan Stockard from Hilton Head and SSS veteran Roy Stalanker, who will host the writers-in the round event at Johnny Harris.
Payne Bridges is impressing people with her music. Born in Albany, Payne’s short stories and poetry led her into songwriting.
Shortly after moving to Savannah just a few years ago, Payne began learning to play guitar. She’s been writing and playing for three years now, and performing around Savannah and Tybee the past several months.
Louise Warren has been turning out songs since elementary school. She started playing guitar at age 14 and hasn’t put it down since. A heartfelt singer, the 22-year-old has performed all over the Southeast, including venues such as the 40-Watt Club in Athens to Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta.
Alan Stockard has playing in and around Hilton Head (with some side trips to Atlanta and Charleston) since last playing at SSS showcase two years ago. He impressed folks then with his roots-flavored blues about real life, tunes one might expect from a gravely-
voiced Marine born in Tennessee and reared in Kentucky.
Roy Stalnaker was born and raised in Savannah. He started singing professionally in the late 1970s, performing throughout the Southeast, from Savannah’s Night Flight Café to Nashville’s Blue Bird Café.
His songs are not exactly traditional country and certainly not the pop country of radio. But with his smooth voice, Stalnaker takes you with him as he travels the back roads of a soulful country music with his ballads and stories.
The Savannah Songwriters Series showcases original music twice monthly – the 2nd Sunday at the American Legion on Tybee and the 4th Sunday at Johnny Harris in Savannah.
Songwriters wishing to perform should contact SSS via the website or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or FB. Send a link to your music. And in the meantime, come support your fellow songwriters.
